EL AL Israel Airlines will celebrate Purim by hosting the second annual National Hamantaschen Eating Championship on Sunday, February 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun (KJ) in New York City. The event will be open to the public and there is no charge to enter.
Non-professional ?eaters? interested in participating can sign-up through February 19th on the EL AL USA Facebook page (ELALIsraelAirlinesUSA). The 10 finalists, who will be chosen at random, will be notified on February 20th and must be available to take part in the eating contest on February 24th.
Competitors participating in the holiday event, run by All Pro Eating, will have five minutes to devour as many hamantaschen (triangle-shaped pastries traditionally eaten on Purim) as possible for the chance to win a roundtrip flight to Israel. Hundreds of kosher apricot and raspberry hamantaschen will be provided by Borenstein Caterers, which provides freshly prepared meals for all EL AL flights departing New York (JFK/Newark).
To spice up the competition, All Pro Eating will bring in their #1 ranked Independent Competitive Eater in the world. Jamie ?The Bear? McDonald is a sensation in the world of pro-eating and is coming off a streak of un-defeats, having won 65 eating championships last year. If Jamie ?The Bear? beats last year?s record set by Will ?The Champ? Millender, who ate 25 hamantaschen in five minutes, he will win a roundtrip ticket to Israel.
In addition, non-pros will compete against each other for the grand prize of a roundtrip ticket to Israel from New York (JFK/Newark) or Los Angeles. If the grand prize winner ?beats the pro,? he or she will win a second roundtrip ticket to Israel. Second and third place winners will receive vouchers toward future flights for $500 and $250 respectively. Last year?s non-pro record was set by Rob ?The Hebrew Hammer? Wizenberg, who devoured 14 hamantaschen in five minutes.?
The EL AL second annual National Hamantaschen Eating Championship is the perfect way to celebrate Purim this year!
